NYC Jewelry Lab by Carolina Iwanow jewelry classes & workshops will open the door to the amazing universe of metalsmithing. Her goal as an instructor is teaching the secrets and techniques of design & jewelry and how to make ideas come to life through one of the most amazing and versatile crafts in this earth: Metalsmithing.


The Art of Metalsmithing

In the Art of Metalsmithing students will learn how to design and create handmade jewelry. They will learn how to use studio tools and many fabrication techniques for working in gold, sterling silver, copper, silver nickel and brass. They will learn sawing, fileing, forming, joining, soldering, filing shapes, ring sizing, sanding, wax carving, marriage of metals, textile techniques on metal, polishing, texturing, stone setting..etc all this techniques will be practiced in class. Students will learn basic design drawings and how to develop concepts for creating jewelry pieces and collections,  They will become familiar with the jewelry studio, tools and equipment. they will be encouraged to create, experience, play and explore to accomplish as their own jewelry designs.  The classes include a list of suppliers ( tools & materials) jewelry art galleries & worldwide jewelry artists scene to provide them with a full introduction to the jewelry universe and industry.

The classes during the day are 4 hours classes and in the evenings are 3 hour classes.Tools and some miscellaneous materials included. 

Materials for the first class will be supply by NYC Jewelry Lab. Materials for the following classes are required and a complete list of Jewelry Suppliers information and the materials required for the class will be sent to each student after the first class. No previous experience is necessary for The Art of Metalsmithing.

Class cancellation Policy / 48 hour business day notice is required for cancellations or class is forfeited.
Class size is limited to 7 students in order to allow you lots of workspace, maximum accessibility to equipment, and plenty of personal interaction with the instructor.
Tools and some miscellaneous materials included.

Carolina Iwanow born in Buenos Aires Argentina, at a very early age she developed a passion for arts, design and jewelry through the hand of her parents and her grandmother who was a designer and a taylor. She had a beatifull jewelry collection that Carolina was amazed with and she wondered how all those tiny perfect pieces were built. Years later she studied fashion & textile design at the University of Buenos Aires and at 19 years old she studies contemporary jewelry with jeweler Jorge Castanon, European and Argentinian folklore chasing & repusee silver Pottery with master jeweler Jorge Pablo Pallarols. Also she developed much of her knowledge of jewelry and the jewelry industry through first-hand experience designing, producing and manufacturing fine jewelry and high end fashion jewelry for the biggest brands and fashion brands in Argentina and worldwide. Also Carolina had the first jewelry art gallery in Buenos Aires. In 1998 she start to teach jewelry & design at the University of Architectecture of Buenos Aires and at her own studio forming jewelers and creating brands since then.
